Retainers

Retainers are mission-critical to retain your corrected bite and smile. Teeth shift over time and good fitting retainers prevent them from moving. We offer several retainer types so you can choose what you’ll wear consistently.

Traditional Removable Retainers

Custom-made removable retainers have an acrylic arch that sits comfortably against the roof of your mouth with a wire that runs across the front of the teeth.

Aligner Style Retainer

Clear, custom-fit retainers are virtually invisible and provide discreet, comfortable retention.

Pro Tips For Retainers

Wear Consistently

After treatment, you'll wear your retainer 24/7 for a while and then only at night.

Clean Daily

Every time you brush, gently brush your retainer, too. You can also soak it in a retainer cleaner.

Protect In Case

When it's not in your mouth, keep your retainer in its case to protect from damage.

FAQs About Retainers

Our doctors will give you specific instructions based on your needs, but most people wear their retainer full-time for the first few months after treatment. After that, you’ll likely only need to wear it at night to keep your teeth from shifting.

It’s best to remove your retainer before eating or drinking (except water) to prevent damage to the retainer and make it easier to keep clean. Just remember to store it in the case and put it back in once you’re done!

If you skip wearing your retainer, your teeth can start shifting. Over time, that means that your hard work to align your teeth could be compromised.
Clean your retainer by brushing it gently with a soft toothbrush and warm water (not hot). You can also soak it in a retainer cleaning solution for extra freshness.

Your retainer might feel a little snug at first, but because it is meant to maintain alignment rather than shift teeth, it should never be painful. If you’re feeling discomfort, it could be a sign it’s not fitting quite right. Let us know, and we’ll adjust it for you!
